THESE ARE THE RULES THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY FOR THE RP SECTION. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR THE RULES THAT ARE FOR THE WHOLE SITE, THEY ARE HERE.
01. No godmodding! That means that you can't take control of someone else's character. Unless the person gives you specific permission which you can prove in a topic, you may not take control of any characters other than the ones that you control. That means that you may not say a certain character did this, or, in a more subtle extent, that a blow that your cat threw at someone else's character landed (as that controls whether or not the other character attempted to dodge).
02. No powerplaying! Godmodding and Powerplaying get mixed up all the time, but they are two completely separate things. Godmodding is like "playing as God," which means you control every character and every thing. Powerplaying is "playing with power," which means that your character is the most powerful character out there. Don't do it! Your character will miss a mouse occasionally, and your character will get hit by a blow another character slapped at you. With the mouse situation, the mods will determine whether or not you catch it to prevent you from powerplaying on this site. This actually leads into the next rule...
03. On this site, you're modded! That means, if your cat is hunting by itself, you do not say that a mouse appeared or that you caught it. A staff member determines that. Certain staff members are assigned certain areas, not including g-mods and up, who are assigned to every area. In this way, it makes everything fairer. Mod posts can also help you if no one has joined your topic. Cats that are introduced this way are NPC cats. Mods may also control Twolegs and other animals, such as badgers. However, they must do it within their rights, which are posted within the staff board. You will not be modded if you are interacting with another cat. That means if you throw a hit at a cat that is some other RPer's, the other RPer determines if you hit, not a staff member. This prevents overposting.
04. Nothing TOO graphic, please. I don't mind if you explain your cat's wounds in morbid detail (but please, warn us before you do) but when it comes to birthing and mating, please, keep the cap low. Don't say exactly how the embryo is squeeeeeezed out, and just say the kit dropped to the floor from his/her mother. Also, mating = sex. That means if you explain it in graphic detail, you are breaking the rule stated in the general rules, which is REALLY, REALLY bad.
05. Don't be a mod for someone else, unless you actually ARE a mod! I don't want to see members saying that another member caught a mouse when they have no right to do so. I am dead serious. This is a rule that can be easily broken, and it is considered powerplaying (see rule 2).
06. Please make your posts at least two paragraphs long, four sentences-six sentences per paragraph! Yes, that's right. This is a literate RP, which means no slacking off! I want you to make the longest posts you possibly can here. I want your record for the longest post here. But that doesn't mean you should repeat yourself, or say random gibberish. If you are having trouble extending the length of your post without doing these things, consider this:
- What is your character feeling? - How is your character reacting to previous events/previous posts? - What does your character see other characters do? (This allows you to basically quote what the person before you did. It's very efficient for getting a long post!) - What is your character thinking? - Is your character recalling his/her past at this present moment? - What is your character doing/ where is he/she relative to the backdrop?
07. Please separate OOC text from IC text! I don't care how you do it, whether it's in a different color, marked OOC: in front, using parentheses and stuff (), [], {}, whatever -- as long as it's clearly marked "OOC" instead of "IC" I'll be fine with it. People can confuse your OOC comments with your IC comments, and that's just no good.
08. Please make this realistic! There will be no cats with purple wings, or weird star-shaped spots (aww >: ) all over him or her. As well, make names realistic, too. Cats aren't going to know anything about elements, so don't call a cat Lithiumpaw or something. I won't accept out-there names that introduce concepts that cats wouldn't know about.
09. Don't go into just any topic you please! If someone wants only certain people in his/her topic, don't join it unless you are one of those people. I can't stress enough how rude it is to play as a warrior and go into a medicine cat only topic. It ruins plot, and it's not fun for the people who are making the topic. You are able to join topics that either have your name at the top of the post/title, or "open" topics.
10. Don't take too long to respond to a topic! Please, don't leave someone hanging for more than a week. If you do, I'm afraid I will have to take over your character (or, if you have a canon character, the backup for the canon character will have to take it). It's not fair for the person who is waiting for your post quite patiently when you won't even respond. It's no fun, and it wastes their effort of being at the site. I understand when you lose your muse, but try to muster through it.
11. This site goes by liquid time! That means I quite frankly don't care if your cats are in multiple topics at the same time, so long as there's an order to your posts. For example, say I started two topics with Firepaw. I have to say that one topic happened after the other. Firepaw can't be hunting and talking to Tigerclaw at the same time, but I could say that Firepaw hunted after he talked to Tigerclaw, and it all works out.
12. Give everyone a turn! If your topic has more than two people in it (like, say, four) be sure to let everyone have a turn at posting before you post again yourself. There are special cases when this rule is not applicable (like two cats are fighting and the other two aren't allowed to do anything but watch) but in general, it's nice to allow everyone a turn to react to the situations given to them.
13. Romantic pairings have no care about gender! Love is love, after all. And yes, there is such a thing as a gay animal. I don't care whether it's male x male or female x female, so long as you don't say one of them got pregnant or something when it's absolutely impossible if they're the exact same gender. (And please, once again, no graphic mating. Not only does that break rule four, but... yurrrk!)
14. Don't just randomly decide to start a site-wide plot! If you have an idea for a plot, please put that in the plot board. I don't want random huge plots contradicting with each other at all. It's weird, and it messes up the whole point of the RP.
15. Don't hark on me about "canon"! This isn't technically IC, but I still feel I should state that you shouldn't hark on me about canon pairings not going as you planned (like, for some reason Spiderleg ended up with Honeypaw eventually on this site or something). Pairings are decided by the people who play the characters -- not by canon, and not by anything else, either. This RP isn't completely canon. It's set in canon, and the events before its start are completely canon... but as it goes on from there, it'll diverge from canon. I won't be surprised if pairings follow.
